Junior Internship Program
Updated Internship Model - 5/27/22
-
Internship will be a year-long class on financial literacy, resume building, interview skills, career exploration, and college readiness.
-
The College Success Team will push into each Junior elective course one day per week to teach the Internship class.
-
-
Students will NOT be eligible to leave campus during Period 6 for off-campus internships. Instead, DSST: Byers will organize career exploration field trips throughout the Denver - Metro Area.
-
Field trips will happen during the school day (transportation will be provided by DSST: Byers).
-
Students will be eligible to sign up for trips on a rolling basis throughout the school year.
-
-
Students will have the opportunity to visit different organizations and companies to help them explore new and desired career pathways.
-
ALL students will gain access to job shadowing and career exploration opportunities.
-
This model will minimize transportation barriers for students.
-
Students won't have to sacrifice a strong internship experience for commitments such as athletics, work, or childcare duties.
-
That being said, DSST: Byers will continue to honor those students and families who've already secured an internship and would prefer to utilize the previous model. If this applies to you, please note these requirements:
-
It must be a year-long internship.
-
The student won't have a Period 6 elective course; thus, they must be in good academic standing via graduation credit requirements.
-
The "Site Agreement Form" must be completed by the internship company or organization.
-
The College Success Team will meet with the company or organization and parents to confirm that it is a good fit.
-
All students will initially be scheduled into electives to align with the new internship model. Once the aforementioned forms and meetings are complete, the student's schedule will update.
-
-
The student must complete weekly reflections and time logs.
-
Internship class work such as resume, mock interview project, and career exploration project are still required.
-
The student must leave campus everyday immediately after Period 5.
-
Failure to do so will result in losing this internship privilege.
-
